3 Tips for Better Workplace Ergonomics
Published on December 15, 2023
In today’s working world, most of us find ourselves slumped behind a desk for eight or more hours each day, staring at a computer monitor and not moving nearly as much as we should.
This doesn’t just damage our well-being—it can wreak havoc on our overall health—physically, emotionally and mentally.
To help keep your spine and nervous system happy while you work, here are a few helpful tips to make your office more ergonomically friendly.
1. If you work using a computer monitor or screen, make sure that it is placed directly in front of you and that your eyes are 2/3 of the way up the screen. This helps to ensure proper neck posture so that you aren’t looking downward with a forward head carriage.
2. While sitting in your desk chair, do your feet hit the ground? They should. If not, place a box or block under your feet. This will help to keep your hips and legs in proper alignment.
3. Consider using a standing desk for part of your day. The human body’s favorite position is “the next one”—meaning it doesn’t like to do any one thing for a prolonged period of time, whether it’s sitting or standing. Using a standing desk for a portion of your working day will help give your body the break it needs.
